The three levels of  \t\ttaxation are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Federal, through the Canada Revenue Agency;<\/li>\n<li>Provincial \/ Territorial, through respective provincial\/territorial  \t\t\tfinance or revenue departments; and<\/li>\n<li>Municipal, through local government.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are different types of tax applied by these levels of government on  \t\tconsumers, wage earners, and businesses. The basic types of taxes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Income tax derived from an individual&#8217;s employment or a  \t\t\tcorporation&#8217;s business revenues;<\/li>\n<li>Consumer (retail or sales taxes) and Excise taxes, levied on the  \t\t\tproduction, sale, or consumption of goods and services;<\/li>\n<li>Property taxes, derived from the sale and transfer of property.<\/li>\n<li>Import \/ Export, based on the movement of goods across borders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The amount of tax each Canadian pays depends on a number of factors  \t\tincluding:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your employment income (how much you earn)<\/li>\n<li>Where you live (your province, city, and whether you own or rent)<\/li>\n<li>What deductions you are eligible to declare (amounts you can subtract  \t\t\tfrom your income to reduce your taxable income); and<\/li>\n<li>The products you consume and the consumption taxes associated with those products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Canada, taxes, tariffs, and duties are collected by different levels of government to fund their programs and services.
